Retiring Old Flags
Do you have a worn, dirtied, or torn American flag that needs
to be retired? If so, please deposit the flag in the red, white & blue
mailbox now
located in front of the Village Hall at 400 Park Avenue.
All American flags that are collected will be disposed of this
August at Owasippe Scout Reservation, the oldest Boy Scout Camp
in the nation, in a proper flag retirement ceremony in accordance
with the United States flag code. The United States flag code
states that "The flag, when it is in such condition that
it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed
in a dignified way, preferably by burning." Troop 65 of
River Forest will continue to collect flags deposited in the
box and retire them annually.
The Boy Scouts of Troop 65 thank you. |
