Status of Federal Disaster Declaration
President Barack Obama has signed a Disaster Declaration for
Illinois counties that includes Cook County. This declaration
authorizes FEMA to begin work with local residents to issue disaster
grant assistance.
As FEMA assistance teams come into our area,
Cook County Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management
will coordinate
the establishment of Disaster Recovery Centers to facilitate
a rapid response to Cook County residents. Until those centers
are up and running, River Forest residents can contact FEMA
directly to begin the registration process. You can register
with FEMA
at www.DisasterAssistance.gov or
call 1-800-621-3362. Assistance is available at this number
between
the hours of 7:00
am and 10:00 pm, seven days a week until further notice.
For more information on the registration process,
view the Disaster
Assistance Made Easy brochure.
State Disaster Recovery Loans
The River Forest Village President signed
a Proclamation of Emergency which was sent to the Cook County
Department
of Homeland
Security
and Emergency Management to enable the County to ask
for assistance from the State of Illinois. This process is
completed and Governor
Quinn has declared Cook County along with twelve surrounding
counties a "Disaster Area".
This declaration opens the door to provide low-interest loans.
Residents and business owners in River Forest that were hit with
severe storms and flooding over the weekend are eligible for
low-interest disaster recovery loans through the Illinois State
Treasurer Office.

Fraud Warning
The Village warns of the possibility
that con artists or scammers may pose as relief workers
and exploit residents in need. The
police department recommends that whenever possible, residents
hire local contractors, workers they've used in the
past, or people recommended by personal friends and neighbors.
NEVER
allow people into your home, require proper identification
when someone comes to your door, and call 9-1-1 whenever you
see something suspicious.
