Below are brief descriptions of the responsibilities of the
Boards and Commissions that exist within the Village of River
Forest. Click on the Board or Commission name for detailed information,
committee members, and meeting times.
Development Review Board
Holds hearings and makes recommendations to the Village Board regarding
development applications.
Board of Fire and Police Commissioners
Tests,
screens and appoints new members to the fire and police departments
of the Village, excluding the fire chief and police chief.
Historic Preservation
Commission
Holds hearings and reviews
applications for Landmark properties and Certificates of Appropriateness.
Local Ethics Commission
All complaints for violations of the State Gift Ban Act shall
be filed with the Local Ethics Commission.
Plan Commission
Oversees the maintenance of the River Forest Comprehensive Plan
that articulates the Village’s general land use policies.
They also provide recommendations to the Village Board regarding
a variety of land use planning issues.
Task Force to Study Sewer System and Flooding Issues
The purpose of this task force is to examine in detail the September
2008 flood.
Traffic and Safety Commission
Reviews
transit, parking and potentially hazardous traffic matters of
the Village that have been referred to them.
Zoning Board of Appeals
Holds hearings and makes recommendations to the Village Board
regarding applications for zoning variations, rezoning, zoning
code text amendments, appeals and special use permits.
