Home Repair and Remodeling Act

Effective January 1, 2000, the State of Illinois General Assembly passed legislation entitled "Home Repair and Remodeling Act." This Act is intended to improve communication between you, the homeowner, and the businesses and contractors performing home repairs/remodeling, and establishes requirements that a contractor must follow. The Home Repair and Remodeling Act is designed to enhance consumer confidence, reduce the likelihood of disputes, and promote fair and honest practices.

If you think you have been defrauded, or for more information, please contact the Attorney General's Chicago Office at (800) 386-5438. There are "Home Repair: Know Your Consumer Rights" pamphlets available at the River Forest Village Hall, 400 Park Avenue. To review the Act itself, visit the Attorney General's Web Site.
