The River Forest Comprehensive Plan sets forth long-range recommendations for the maintenance and enhancement of the community and for desirable improvements, developments and redevelopments in selected locations.
The Plan is River Forest's official policy guide for land-use and development. It considers not only the immediate needs and concerns of the community, but also projects improvement and development 10 to 15 years in the future.
The Plan is "comprehensive" in both scope and coverage. It encompasses the use of land and buildings, the movement of vehicles and pedestrians, and the provision of public facilities. It also addresses residential neighborhoods, commercial areas, public and institutional lands, and public rights-of-way.
The Comprehensive Plan establishes the "ground rules" for private improvement and development. It provides guidelines by which the Plan Commission, Development Review Board, and Village Board can review and evaluate private development proposals.
The Comprehensive Plan was last updated in November 2003.
